I'm so tired of myself! It's always...."When my house sells ....I can give more!" "When I have more time....I can serve more!" I'M DONE! I have spent many hours sitting around on the computer, watching TV....etc. I'm pretty sure that God is calling me to do WAY more than that!
Not that there is anything wrong with a little of both. Especially because that is how God spoke to me about what I'm about to do. Isn't it amazing how He knows how to get to each of us?..heehee. Here's the raw truth on how my new adventure has come about. I sell Scentsy and my dear friend Jodi was the first in the area to start selling. She put her heart and soul into her business with the firm belief that if she was supposed to succeed with her business that God would bless her. AND HE DID! Her business WAY exceeded any expectations she ever had. She does wonderful things with her blessings! (Thank you for helping us bring Mario home!) I of course didn't pray much about it...just dabbled around with it and am still having fun. But since I didn't do as she did....I was jealous! "Why can't I do that!" Poor me! I have to be totally honest...until yesterday I was still feeling that way! Money was my driving force! UGH...that makes me sad! I was looking at my computer trying to find other new businesses that I could be one of the early sellers so I could really make a success of it! Well.....I found it! But "success" has taken on a completely new meaning in the last 24 hours. I know I'm rambling....but hang in there....this is good! Yesterday....In the middle of having a huge garage sale to get rid of all the STUFF that is cluttering my life....I got on my sister's blog and read a message that my 15 year old niece had written....BAM....talk about knocking some sense into me! Spring Break

This Spring Break was going to be a quiet.... stay at home...clean out the closets week. But to my surprise and with a help of a GREAT friend...it ended up being an amazing vacation! My principal Erin and I were feeling sorry for ourselves on Friday at school and by Saturday a.m. we were packed and driving to Texas. I spent the week making tons of new memories with friends and meeting the newest member of my family!

Our families other surprise was that while Raegan had been planning for this whole school year to go to Disney with the band and chorus...there was a sudden opening for one more and Sydney was able to go with 2 hours notice. She was thrilled and they both had the trip of a lifetime!

In Honor of our beloved Jack and Duncan...Madison put together "Welcome Gift" for children who go to the Neville House. The Neville House is a shelter for families escaping domestic violence. Madison combined stuffed animals, toiletries and books filled with stories of hope, love and comfort. This had to be the best Christmas experience we have done together. To see my daughter giving from her heart instead of asking for more "stuff" was the greatest gift.^{1 John 3-17} If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?

Summer of '09

I want to apologize to all my loyal readers....all 3 of you....for being absent from the blog lately. My only excuse is that I "misplaced" my camera for a short while...then it was just pure laziness! So here it is....I'm catching you up on what we've been doing this summer.

Raegan graduated from 8th grade!

Tyler, Sydney, Raegan, my sister Debbie and my niece Alison took a rode trip to Dallas, Texas to my nephew Travis' graduation! We love you Travis! We had a blast!

We had a garage sale and Madison reminded me of the little girls in Guatemala that sold merchandise on the streets. She asked people if they wanted to buy a purse! Too funny!

And most recently..Brian and I celebrated our 11 year anniversay. We took a last minute trip to Galena where we were married. We stayed in a bed and breakfast for the first time! It was a much needed getaway! We had a blast!

I thought this Mother's Day was going to be a TOTAL disaster when Sydney called me on the phone..... from her room....in the house...at 12:20 a.m! Mom, "I puked!" I thought maybe there could be one day a year that a Mom is off duty! When I entered her room and she handed me the waste basket that she had lost her cookies in....and gave me a big smile and said, "Happy Mother's Day!" A few hours later in came Madison complaining of a non-stop runny nose. This rotated all night long! When my alarm clock went off at 7:00 a.m. I myself felt like I was gonna join Sydney. (Possibly too much butter popcorn the night before?) I called off from teaching Sunday School and slept away most of the morning. As I sat there feeling sorry for myself...I read an article in the paper about a family who lost their 3rd grade son. I also thought of what Amy must be doing to survive today with out Jack and Duncan. I realized that instead of doing the old poor me....I should be grateful that I have daily duties as a mother. I thank God that He has blessed my life with five amazing children and that I get to be their MOMMY!!!

Choosing Joy!

My friend Sue and I went to Hearts At Home conference in March. We listened to a couple...Bill and Pam Farrel speak about marriages. We loved Pam's outlook as she explained when life was absolutely at it's worse someone asked her how she was doing and she replied, "Choosing Joy!" Now she didn't say this in a monotone voice...she said it with great flamboyancy! Sue and I discussed how absolutely true this is...you have to choose to look at life in a positive light and choose to find joy.
This last month has been such a difficult one for our community with the loss of Jack and Duncan. My children, especially Madison has had a very rough time. Instead of hurting and dwelling on why it had to happen...I'm making myself remember the good times and wonderful memories of their beautiful smiling faces. I'm choosing to see the strength in all the classmates, including Madison and the generosity of the surroundings communities and schools. The love and compassion that the teachers and faculty at our school have shown to one another is overwhelming. They say that God is not allowed in school. I'm here to tell you..............He is there....His presence is felt, His voice is heard, His love is shared.
Today we honored Jack and Duncan by releasing blue and green balloons which are their favorite colors. It was absolutely amazing to see the balloons and hear the children at the same time say....wow...then silence for a few seconds.
If I have never been sure of anything in my life....I am sure that God sent me to this job! After all the confusion and heartache over jobs this past year, I know that this is ABSOLUTELY where I am supposed to be.

Madison's goal has been to make sure Jack and Duncan's mommy is okay. Today again she showed her compassion and acted as God's hands and feet.

Yesterday I woke at 5:00 a.m. to a phone call that I had been fearing. Jack and Duncan were found dead along with their father about 1 hour from our hometown. As a parent I did not ever want to have to tell my children that their classmates had died. I ask that you keep Amy, Jack and Duncan's Mom in your constant prayers. She will need only the strength that God can provide to just keep on breathing. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.

Where Does The Time Go?

I'm so embarrassed....I was checking out my friend's blog and noticed it said I last posted 4 weeks ago! Oops! There has just not been enough hours in my day! I know everyone feels this! I was talking with my sister Becky today and we were discussing the fact that my oldest sister Debbie would be turning 50 this year...my youngest sister Amy would be turning 40 in just a few days and our Mom would be 70!!! Where has THAT time gone??? I have to be totally hones though...we come from great genes...My Ma soooo does not look 70, Debbie does not look 50 and Amy no where near looks 40!! So I'm hoping I don't resemble 45! Hee Hee! I think our staying young secrets are that we just plain know how to enjoy life!!!! My quote of the week on my board at work currently say's, "I take nothing for granted. I now only have good days or great days!" That quote is from Lance Armstrong. I don't want to wait until I survive cancer or lose a loved one to think that way. I refuse to waste even one little day not enjoying my family, work, friends, time or something about the day! Just be happy! Praise God and thank Him for every day!

Mario's Gotcha Day!

I can't believe that it has already been one year since we met our little boy! In some ways it feels like he's been here forever, and in other ways it feels like he just got here. There are days he's come so far...learned so much and then...the relapses! Ugh! But I still thank God...after I cry and then settle down...even for the hard times. It makes me appreciate the really good days that I always take for granted. Most of the time when something "not so wonderful" happens, we are grateful because it's a reminder that we haven't talked to him about that subject yet. For example...at a ballgame one night a little boy told Mario to tell a little girl she was ugly. She was in fact beautiful...which tells you it was more of an attention thing...well...my little guy did it!!!! I could've cried! But instead a quick apology, a two valuable lessons were set into place. We talked about peer pressure and respecting others! Thank you God for the lessons!!!!

Even with all the ups and downs...I wouldn't change one little second of it! I love this boy so much it hurts! I'm ready for more!!!! If you want us to God....Bring 'Em On!!!!:

Our little school's cheerleading team did an amazing job! They nailed everything! We did not make top ten but we are 18th in the State! That's so great for a team that I don't believe ever qualified for State and doesn't have a lot of tumbling experience. You guys ROCK!

In a world of crime, lust, murder, drugs, racism.....I thank God for CHEERLEADERS! Ha! No seriously...I couldn't be more proud of Sydney and her high school team. They went from years prior...all us parents just hoping we didn't come in last in the competitions to qualifying for STATE! They preform at 12:05 p.m. today. So if you have a second to throw up a prayer...I know we all would appreciate it. I know Syd struggled earlier this year after returning from a mission trip. She just wanted high school to be over (she's only a junior) because she already knows she wants to be a missionary. She thought it was just a waste of time! I had to show her that she is doing God's work NOW...as a role model...she's got a great spirit...a pure heart and also speaks out to her peers about staying pure for marriage. Sydney is doing exactly God's work now....yes...even as a cheerleader!

Mario's Tenth Birthday...Ten Cakes!

My little boy turned 10 three days after Christmas! We had a great celebration in Texas while we were visiting my sister and her family. When we returned we had his first birthday party EVER with friends. We went to the bowling alley...it was so amazing...they turned off all the lights and lite up the disco ball! We play loud music and the kids danced and did "the worm" and encouraged each other to bowl like they've never bowled before! Ha! They all signed a bowling pin that Mario was given as a keepsake. Then we came home to celebrate with a pinata and presents and lots of cake. You see Mario had never had a party or cake before he came to live with us. When I first found this out last February I told him I would get him 10 cakes. We've talked about it several times since but it wasn't until I actually stood in front of the 10 cake display that I got very emotional. All the time I missed with my little boy. All the special family moments that we take for granted, all the love that every child deserves...my little guy went without. I just pray that every person that has ever contemplated adoption for one millisecond would stop right now and do it....JUST DO IT!!! It'll change your life and a life of a child forever in the most amazing way. Thank you God again for sending me my little boy.

Words cannot even begin to describe how much I treasure my sister and her family! No matter how many miles have separated us...currently 800!!!....we always manage to get together and make the best memories! It's so cool how our kids are still so close because of this. I was scanning through all my pictures on the computer and was shocked at what amazing time we have with them. They truly take up a huge piece of my heart! It's a good thing I have room for more because when I met my newest nieces and nephews it was love at first sight. We pulled up to see little ones jumping up and down on the porch when we honked!!! I'll never forget that sight! We hugged for about half the time we were there, we shopped, ate, visited, celebrated Mario's 10th birthday, we ate some more, we worshipped and prayed and had plenty of "photo ops"!!! It was a short trip but will forever be one of my greatest visits!!! Thank you Amy and Todd for being you! P.S. I'm sorry I cannot show Jace, Kai, Lainey and Jayla's faces until after the adoption is finalized!

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone. We had such a great time. There is something so magical as seeing your kids get so excited to spend time together...trying hard to remind themselves that Christmas is about celebrating Jesus birth and not about presents....at the same time trying to convince you they are happy they got new clothes too! The most amazing thing about Christmas is family spending time together and having them really think about you....not just what present to get...but REALLY think about you and your family. What you have mentioned in conversation and they go out of their way to make you feel special. My husband is a great example of that. He ALWAYS gets exactly what the kids and I like. I try so hard to follow in his footsteps. Taking time to know someone that intimately is what Christmas is all about. Giving from the heart. After all...that's what God did for us when he sent His son to die on the cross for us...so we could live forever in eternity with Him. Thank you to my whole family for a very Merry Christmas!

My Perfect Work From Home Job

I have written before about how much I love my job as the school nurse. I also have made it abundantly clear about how much I love my job as a Mom. I haven't really written in detail about my other job. I began selling "Scentsy" in the spring to make extra money for my oldest daughter starting college. I have NEVER sold any products before...but when my friend Jodi introduced me to Scentsy...I was sold. They are adorable ceramic warmers that plug in and melt the most amazing wax scents. I don't want this to sound like a sales pitch. I really just want to let everyone know what a cool product it is and how much fun we are having. Raegan and I do most of it together, so it's great bonding time. She knows more than I do about them! Ha! We have only had a handful of "parties" but we get many orders by sending baskets with a warmer and scents with someone to their work. They get the orders...I enter them in the computer....we sort them...and they deliver. Fun and easy. There's not much pushing to sell them...since they're relatively new most areas are untapped so lots of money and down lining to be made. Some of my best memories as a kid were playing in the snow! So when I woke up at 6:30 a.m. and it seemed brighter than normal I knew something cool had happened! I practically had to bribe the kids to brush their teeth and eat breakfast before heading out! Mario plopped on my lap and proclaimed, "I'm trying SO hard to be patient!" With that the bundling up began!!! So right now they're outside and I'm pooped!!! I think they might just stay out there for hours...if I could keep Mario from burying his face in it! It's still a new concept!!!! Gotta love snow!!!

As most have you have already seen the kids are on the dance team at church BUT Raegan made her singing debut today! I was so proud of her...she didn't even get nervous! She was just happy to be praising God! If you look to the right you will see Mario very eagerly dancing and to the left was Madison dancing even though she was sick! She didn't want to miss her chance to dance! Thank you God for blessing me with these amazing kids who live to love you!!!!

This is how we spent our weekend! Raegan, Mario and Madison are on our dance team at church! They love it and I love watching them! We just moved into our new church so we had an outdoor concert to invite the neighboring families over for hotdogs and worship time through dance. I've said it before...we such an awesome church. I want to thank Tina for all her hard work and dedication...her love for Jesus shows! Couldn't ask for a better leader for my children.

It's official...........he's all ours!!!! Today we legally adopted Mario! In our state you have to wait 6 months before you can finalize! What a celebration! Thank you God for letting ME be this amazing little boy's Mommy!

You know how you watch TV on the Lifetime channel or something like it about a family that is raising like a dozen children and you think....WOW! How amazing is that!!!!! I know the first thing you probably think is....I could NEVER do that! And that's okay!!! Alot of people can't....but do you ask yourself...what is my gift??? You know we all have a gift...some people are great speakers, some people are great leaders, some are great organizers, some people can adopt and raise amazing children! Well below is the story of my sister and her husband and their awesome family. They have been blessed with the gift of being great parents. God has placed on their hearts to adopt after they had four biological kids. They first adopted a beautiful baby girl from Guatemala, then another doll-baby who was 4! Then they fell in love with Kaden and God again answered prayers and sent him to be in their family. Just when you think how lucky can one family be.....God sent them a sibling group of 5!!!!! Yes...that's 12!!!! It's a great number! Please read below what I copied from Angel's Blog. YOU ARE INVITED TO A VIRTUAL BABY SHOWER!!!
Some blogger buddies and I are hosting a virtual baby shower for my friend Amy. YOU are invited. If you would like to participate or help host the shower then read away! We are glad you came. :0) Amy could really use our help and support. I hope we can all let her know how much we care.

My dear friend Amy is expecting 5 babies.... Yes you read that correctly. FIVE! Nope- no typos. She is expecting 5!!! The due date is projected to be 4-6 weeks from today and she just found out she was going to have 5 more babies 2 days ago. :0) AMAZING! You think THAT is amazing??? Wait till you hear this...

she already has 7 children at home. Oh yeah. Now we are talking. Now she will add 5 more beautiful babies to their family.

Now this family needs 5 more beds, 5 more car seats, 5 more dressers, 5 more seats at the table, clothes for 5 more, etc. etc. And no, they have no idea what they are going to drive! The new kiddo's are a sibling group of five coming to them through the foster system -but they are no longer foster children because this precious family is adopting them. They are ages 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
Recently I blogged about my visit with Amy and her precious family here and here. Here is some of what I said about her...... Next it was off to see my dear friend Amy. Amy is one of the best things that has happened from my blog adventure. Amy started following my blog back when I was in process with Zoe. She had 4 tummy kids and 1 adoption under her belt at that point.
She basically liked my blog cause she thought I was fun and a maybe just a little CRAZY cause I was adopting older..... UNTIL...... God told her she should adopt an older child. LOL!!! So she e-mailed me and an amazing friendship was born.She went on to adopt the wonderful Mya and now sweet K. I, of course, have added Zoe and Kaiya. This year I got to go on an amazing mission trip to Eagle's Nest Orphanage in Guatemala with her.I just love this lady. I KNOW God sent her to me! She is such a support to me. I learn so much from Amy. I truly admire the way she parents her children. She is a Proverbs 31 type of woman. I was in awe spending the night in her home. She has 7 children and her home is peaceful and fun and pleasant. Her children are so sweet! They are amazing.
SO THAT'S MY FRIEND AMY!!!! The number of children blessed to have her as a mother are now 12! Not everyone has the gifts to mother 12 children. Not everyone can be a teacher or president or run a bulldozer. We all have certain skills. Amy has the skills to have a large family. God has gifted her with 12... Twelve children who are loved and safe and happy together.
12 is a good number... don't you think? After knowing Amy I know this is her gift- being a mother. Some people don't like twelve. They say it's too many. I celebrate that Amy has such a grace and courage in the gifts God has given her. I celebrate the lives she has changed by surrendering her own life to serve others.
12 is great! 12 can be handy!
What would she ever cut out to make her life easier?
Is there anything or anyone she would leave out? Heaven forbid!
Life isn't always easy-
it can even get down right messy!
What makes it worth living??? Looking back and seeing this..... Looking out on a field and seeing this.... Soooo I think for Amy.... 12 is AWESOME!So, Amy and crew, the next time some sad little person asks you WHY you would EVER want to adopt 5 more kids...
You just say, "Look, for us it's not about more kids." "For us it's about more people to love!"Plus tell em' to hush up or they will have to deal with me. Ya' KNOW how tough I am! ;0)
I know that not everyone celebrates our adoptions the same way they do pregnancies. I know some people don't see the 12th child the same way they saw the first. We KNOW that's not at all God's view. God celebrated each of your babies before the world began. We know that and we are REJOICING with you and with them. I can hardly wait to meet them.

God's plan is always better than mine!

This year has been a ROLLER COASTER ride!!!! I was just looking back at my posts since I left my job in April. That was one of the hardest moves I ever made. What was so weird was that I had been trying to get the job in my hometown at the Doctor's office here for 4 YEARS!!! I just KNEW that it was the "perfect" job for me and my family (4 days a week and 3 minutes from home). So I prayed and I prayed and I begged and pleaded with God to make it happen!!!! And guess what after many phone calls on my part to the office manager, I got the job....and guess what.....I HATED IT!!!! I won't go into detail but I've never hated a job in my life....so that's pretty strong words. I became so depressed....so confused....so everything!!! So I prayed and I prayed and I prayed for God to help get me out of it!!! He answered those prayers too...I got a great job back 25 minutes away but it was back to 5 days a week. You know nothing is EVER easy when you're a Mom working outside the home but I took the job! It was an amazing job....loved the people! Reminded me so much of the job I left that I adored! But it's more time away from my family.

So...just when I think that I finally figured it all out....I got a call from my children's school Principal...they need a school nurse! I got the job!!!! I work the exact same hours as my children!!! I'm offf in the summer! God is good!!!!!

I felt bad leaving the new job but I have to look at the positive....I met more amazing people. I have a place to fill in during my summer break! And I learned so much! Thanks MCO!

Is there anything any cuter than a baby kitten? We live by a field and have had our share of mice this summer. With harvest approaching I thought we needed a fierce protector! Does he look like he can handle the job? Gotta love cats...they know when to play and they totally know when to take a nap!!! My baby turned 19!!! I can't believe this is the same little baby that had reddish blonde hair that grew in straight up! I would literally stare at her for hours and I actually would video tape her for hours just holding a toy...really not doing anything but I thought she was the greatest thing EVER! Guess what....she is! I made her promise me when she was just days old to be my very best friend. There were many many days while she was growing up that she didn't want to act like she knew me, let alone be my best friend....but through all the blood, sweat and tears, I can truly say she is my best friend! Tyler has a heart as big as Jupiter! I love you Ty...you are my life!

Okay....I did a big no-no! I've been watching old videos of when my children were little! BIG MISTAKE! I get so sad and want to turn back time!!!! I want time to at least stand still.....better yet! We sang this song today at church like we have a hundred other times. I really liked it but today it took on a whole depth...our amazing worship leader Josh made us stop and really think about one phrase again and really sing it to God. It states exactly what I my heart feels and what my prayer is for EVERYONE!!!!!

We all get caught up in what we are expected to do as the world judges as "normal". The size of house, number of children, cars we drive, etc. I don't care anymore! I want my life to be about what God wants from me! I want"simple" happiness and that means less stress that we add to ourselves because we worry about what others may think of us! Are you with me here?!!! Let's only worry about what our Savior thinks! Let's all help others instead of judging others! God wants us to step into the hard places so we find true happiness! The hard places are usually places others won't go to for fear of being laughed at, talked about, get sick from, etc. The most rewarding thing you can do is walk as Jesus did...help the people that "the world" looks at as undesirable! Help the homeless, volunteer at a nursing home, talk to the "strange" kid at school or work. Adopt or foster! Especially the kids that nobody else wants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT....if you are unable to do any of these or something like it.....I ask that you please do not judge when you see others doing it! Don't point or whisper when you see a family that may not look like yours...just smile. Don't judge when you see someone who doesn't look exactly like you. Try to understand that God made them just as they are. Just don't judge period...accept, love and help!

Please God let Your Will be my whole purpose...do not allow worldly views guide my heart....let my purpose be to follow you! Use me for Your Glory!

Today was a special day for our family! Raegan, Mario, Madison and I were baptized at our church! Then our whole family was dedicated. Being immersed in our church means that you are making a statement that Jesus is your Lord and Savior and that you are declaring a personal relationship with Him! I loved that we were able to do this together and before our church moves into it's new building.

I have to admit that yesterday I was having a hard time dealing with "life". Things are in major limbo with jobs, health issues, finances challenges, etc. I was questioning God and His will for my life! I began crying and questioning my worthiness to even be baptized. How could I stand before my church family and declare my personal relationship with God when I don't fully trust Him and question why He closes some doors of amazing opportunities in my life.

Then....I dropped to my knees and began praying....please God help me be stronger, to fully trust that Your plan is always far better than anything I could EVER imagine. Then I went straight to my Bible and began flipping pages and finding verse after verse of scriptures that confirmed His love for me. And then I realized......this is exactly why I should be baptized! I am turning to Him in prayer and reading His Holy word! A few years ago....I would have looked everywhere BUT to Him for the answers! The scripture that brought me back to reality was 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,: Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

1st Day of School!

Today was our 1st day of school! Madison was up at 6:15 a.m. and Mario woke up saying, "It's our first day at school!" Raegan got up more quickly than most 13 year olds but Sydney....not so much! Hit snooze a few times and after a while in front of the mirror she finally posed for her picture! Notice she wouldn't pose outside though! Ha! BUT...ONE THING WAS TRULY MISSED.....TYLER! It wasn't the same without my first born being here!!!! I don't like her being at college! I know she's okay...but man...I don't like letting go!!!! So I'm going to hold on tight and enjoy every moment with each one as long as God will bless me too!

I have been wanting to do this for the longest time! We just began sponsoring a little boy from Mexico! I thought what a great way to teach your children to give to others instead of just "wanting" all the time. So we are going to do this as a team effort. We will collect loose change around the home and will each write letters and lift up Rubelsi in our prayers! I was just complaining about how much STUFF we have in our house...so for my children's birthday's we will hint strongly for monetary gifts only and will send it to Rubelsi! My greatest pleasure would be to actually go meet him in person some day!

Quieting My Heart to Hear God!

I'd like to apologize to my loyal readers (all 3 of you!) for not blogging lately. You can tell from a few of my past posts that I was kind of working through some issues in my life. I have to be totally honest here because thaFirst...t's all I know how to be. I prayed and begged and did everything in my power for 4 years to get my new job. Well...I've been there 4 months and I am miserable. I won't go into huge details about it...but let's just say I know this is not where I am suppose to be! I have been very depressed and trying everything in my power again to change things. That's where I have learned my problem is....let me explain. Yesterday morning my dear friend Julie called me. She was telling me how in her quiet time God has made her aware of some amazing things. As she said this...I thought to myself...I never HEAR God. I pray all the time in what my sister calls "throw up prayers" where you just say things like, "God, help me out here! I'm struggling!" Of course I drop to knees each night and thank God for all my blessings and ask for help where needed. Then I go off to bed...feeling like okay...now what can I do to help myself. I never take time to listen. Then I went to my hair stylist whom I go to church with and we spoke about our secret prayer partners and how we when we reveal ourselves to each other we are suppose to tell of great moments we experienced as we were praying for them!!!! UGHHH! Are you kidding me!!! We both agreed that this was way past our comfort zone!!! I never have been experiences while praying!!! THEN..... on my way home I was talking to my sister Amy. I told her of my concerns about not hearing God...and it was like a lightbulb switching on!!! (Thanks Amy) Jenny...duh...do you sit and listen to God for the answers or do you try to just solve problems by yourself? Do you take the time to quiet your heart and mind to actually spend time just talking with God? Do you just sit and listen!!!! NO...I'm too busy....I put everything before spending time with the only One that can really help!!! OK God!!!! It only took 3 people telling me in one day...finally ....I heard you loud and clear!!!! I'm so excited now to spend time with my Lord and Savior each and every day!!!! I can't wait to hear and see what he holds in the future for me....and it was so true what my pastor said just this last Sunday. Thank God for the big problems in your life because they are what make your faith stronger! Growing your faith is the ONLY reason we are on this Earth! So thank you God for using this time in my life to turn to you and only you and trust you fully!!!!!

We went to Branson for a long weekend to meet with family! Mario finally got to meet his cousins. He had already met Aunt Amy and Kaden but hadn't met the rest of the crew. I can't take it!!!!!!!!!!! How is it that I have 5 children and it seems so quiet in my house (at times). Sydney just returned from the Ozarks last night and Raegan left for church camp today with her friend Brooke. I am truly thankful that my children want to experience new opportunities but MAN...do you ever stop missing them? I just pray that Raegan has the most amazing time, meets new friends and strengthens her relationship with Christ!!!! One of her friends at school told her that her religion always shows!!!!! LOVE THAT!!! Love you Rae!!!!

Adopting an older child!!

I was reading my sister's amazing friend Angel's blog (I will call her my friend since we survived Guatemala together..... that experience will make anyone close). She wrote about raising an older adopted child. This prompted me to write about our journey so far. It has now been 4 and a half months since we brought Mario home. It has been one the most rewarding and frustrating things I've ever experienced. I wouldn't change one single moment of it. First I have to say God blessed us with the most amazing little boy. He truly has been easy as far as older children adoptions go. Also....this has been the greatest gift to give my children. They have learned so much about giving and sharing and loving unconditionally. I truly believe that all my girls will become an adoptive parent when they are grown.

One of our biggest hurdles to get over is Mario's sleep issues. He did well in the beginning and slept in his room by himself. After we moved to our new house he didn't do so hot! He became very afraid to sleep alone. We had many talks and tried many different strategies...NOTHING seemed to work. If we let him sleep in his sister's rooms he would talk and keep them awake. If we let him sleep in our room there was too many distractions with lights and TV's. So...I tried sitting in his doorway until he fell asleep....OUCH! Frustating!!!!! I tried to understand about real fears he had....really I did....sometimes I was more sympathetic than others. He was having rough days...slept and cried through Ty's graduation...on and on!!!!! Finally....I don't even know what happened but we tried one last thing....I put a timer on a strand of lights that ran around his room. I told him when the lights go out, after about an hour of lying down, he could then get up IF he was afraid and go into his sister's room and sleep in a sleeping bag!!! He did good for a few nights then....UGH...one night I went upstairs and he was already in their room asleep and his lights hadn't even gone off yet. So BIG talk time. Talks about trying to work as a family, making plans to better ourselves and sticking to them, talks about trusting our loved ones fully to protect us. I know...I know...he's not gonna trust us fully yet....but planting the seeds helps. We talked about what he would do if he woke up and was afraid. I told him to pray for God to help him be brave enough to try to fall back to sleep! Guess what....God answered his prayers....Two nights in a row now he has slept in his own bed. He and I and our whole family are sooooo proud of how he's doing!!!! He's just awesome in that I can give him the idea's and goals and he makes them happen. I told him..."Guess what...you slept so good that you'll probably hit the ball during your baseball game tonight!" He had been a little afraid of getting hit by the pitcher. That night....he had 2 hits, 1 walk and 3 runs!!!! Unbelievable!!!!He's on a roll now! Look out there's nothing that Mario can't do!!!! I will be right by his side being his #1 fan in all his life challenges!

I'm just in awe of how God justs gives you the right kid for your family whether that child was from your belly or from the gift of adoption!!!! I would never even hesitate to tell anyone who was contemplating adoption to open your heart and let God fill it with His love!

Oh my....what a day! I moved Tyler into her apartment today. I can't believe I actually made it through without crying....can't say the same for Tyler....awwwww...poor baby...she was so nervous, but excited once we got there. She is such an amazing girl...so full of life and happiness..
I pray that God watches over her and guides every since step and choice she has to make. I remember bringing her home for the first time when she was a baby and I promised her I would be her best friend...I know she probably didn't always feel like I was....Thanks for being my best friend Ty! (Great...now I cried!)

Well....we've all been pretty emotional around here. Tyler is moving out in 2 days! Mario has given her numerous hugs while asking, "Do you have to move out?" Raegan just looks at you with sad puppy dog eyes when we even talk about it! Sydney left for a vacation to the Ozarks with a friend today for a week and that is probably the best thing for her because she wouldn't handle watching Ty leave...she's already been crying for months now!!!! My children are very close even though they don't always act it!!!! Madison put her thoughts into words by writing a book for Tyler! I hope she doesn't get mad that I just published it for her!!!! It was too priceless not to share!!!! (Illustrations are to follow at a later date! Hee Hee!)

I've been going through alot of changes in the past year....new job, new house, new child, my oldest daughter graduating. Along with all these wonderful things have been TONS of stress! I'm like most people where I find it so easy to sit down and have a huge pity party on how things aren't exactly as I wanted them to be. The house payment is huge, the kids don't keep their rooms clean, my husband is busy and sometimes seems like he's from an entire different planet, I am underpaid at work...and on and on!!! I walked into church on Sunday.. which is my favorite place on this earth.. and it hit me!!!! How would I feel if my children didn't appreciate anything I provided for them? What if the gifts I gave them they complained about and wanted to exchange them for something better. I realized this is how God must feel after blessing me with so many gifts and I find a way to turn His blessings into stress! I should be thankful that I have a beautiful home to live in and that I'm healthy enough to work. I should always be appreciative of how well-behaved and loving my children are and that my husband has always been the most supportive amazing man during the highs and lows of our marriage. I want to give God the glory for all of His abundant grace and love!!! I will keep praying for God to continue to bless my life with new and amazing adventures!!!!

Mario and Madison were playing water games at a neighbors house. I called to ask the Mom to please send them home for supper. She was so nice to tell me that she handed out snacks to all the kids and Mario said, "Ladies first!" Then he asked her if he could have an extra piece to give to his Mom! He was so proud when he walked up and handed me a box of chocolates! I was so proud of him for being the most thoughtful little boy! Every night when we say our prayers I thank God for sending him to me so I could be his Mommy! In church today he leaned over and whispered to me...."I'm glad I'm your little boy!" Could life be any sweeter??????

Oh man! I have felt so disconnected! My computer pooped out last week! My computer stud of a husband was able to get it up and running for me!!!!! I couldn't wait to show you all the pictures of my newest nephew and my sissy when they were here from Texas to visit!!! It seems like an eternity since they've left!!! I hope you all fall madly in love with this little boy just as I have because he is TRULY my hero!!!!!! He has had to face numberous things that if even ONE happened to us it would've been too much to bear. It's the simple things that make me smile these days! When life gets stressful, I like to visit my kids classroom. Well...as I was sitting in Mario's classroom, I began looking around. I said, "Mario, which one is your puppet?" Well if I would've looked a little closer I could have probably figured it out on my own. Mario replied with a huge smile, "It's the one with the mustache!" I went to a movie tonight...Nim's Island. It was about a little girl and her Dad who lived on a private secret island in a tree house!!!! I WANT TO DO THAT! Seriously...I had a stressful week and did an awful lot of evaluating what really makes me happy and what stresses me out!!! I know what stresses me out is CLUTTER, bills, and busy schedules. So...I am going to move into a tree house on a tropical island.....JUST KIDDING! But I will find my paradise someday...yes with my Father in Heaven but also I'm going to make it my personal mission to find a less stressful way to live with my large wonderful family, full of love and busy times and hopefully with a lot of hard work...my piece of paradise within my home on earth.

I have to tell you about a new friendship that I have been blessed with! My new job has a just a handful of girls that are fun to work with! Thank God!! I have known most of them for years as I went there as a patient...BUT I had the fortune to meet Becky who is the one I'm taking her place. We didn't know each other before but we've really have become fast friends. What a double edged sword, I'm here because she's leaving! (Is that the right quote I want here?) Anyway...I love that we have had these fews weeks to work closely and develop a friendship but I hate that she's leaving. But what's really cool is....we live in the same little town so I will be sure to keep our friendship going! I know...I'm sounding corny!!! But she's a cool person and an amazing talent! Educating the world...one person at a time! (or two!)

When people hear the letters HIV....they immediately FREAK OUT! The horrible stigma and disease became huge in the 80's and hasn't stopped but probably has even escalated! There has been great advances in medicine to treat HIV so it becomes not as life-threatening or as spreadable. There has also been so much research to determine exactly how it is spread but we still are afraid to touch people who has the virus for fear of "catching" it. I think it's time we educate ourself about this virus. I loved it when a very close friend of mine who is a Doctor, called it a "whimpy virus". He said you pretty much have to inject the virus into your body..(sex or needles). Can you believe there are still people out there that think you can catch it from drinking out of a fountain after someone who has it? Come on people!!!!! Let's educate ourselves and pass the word on to others! Please read the following that I copied from my sister's blog and what she copied from anothers!!! The following was copied from a blog of one of the most amazing adoptive mommies I have ever 'met'. She is the mother of 11 children- 2 of whom are HIV+. She is a true inspiration. As I read over her blog post it made my heart ache for all of the people who face the stigma of being HIV+. I believe in this day and age it is time for people to wake up and take the time to educate themselves on the truth about HIV. Although I am not the one carrying HIV- I carry the burden of it- as a choice. For me it comes down to one question and one question only- how would Jesus respond to HIV? HIV/AIDS is the worst plague ever to hit the earth. People are hurting- and the answer lies in providing information that will replace fear with knowledge. When people become educated about the disease and its transmission, they can then reach out in compassion without thinking they are risking theirs or their families’ lives. Those of us that know Jesus Christ know that we have the responsiblity to educate ourselves and to reach out in love. This love speaks of a God who can dispel the stigma, fears and superstitions that so many cultures hold concerning HIV/AIDS. Please read the blog post below and please, please- tell two. Tell them the truth- educate yourself- make a stand for those who are hurting. This is once again your chance to make a difference- will you do it?

Today I have heard from several different parents of HIV+ children who are facing negative reactions to their adoptions based on the stigma and ignorance surrounding HIV. It is extremely frustrating to me that in 2008 there is still so much unfounded fear caused by a lack of education, that results in nasty, ugly and mean treatment of people who are HIV+ and their families.
The reason people in the U.S. are not educated about HIV is that most people don't care, because most people in this country are not affected by it. People still see it as the problem of homosexuals, drug users and people in Africa. The reality is, HIV/AIDS is everyone's problem. It is a devastating problem in Africa and many countries, but there are many, many Americans living with this disease as well. In fact, new cases of HIV in the U.S. are now being seen in the largest numbers in heterosexual women. HIV/AIDS is a HUMAN problem.
Living with this nasty disease is hard enough, but compounding that with the misguided fear and judgment of society is beyond tragic, and as the mom of two HIV+ children, it is sad and frustrating.
So, if you are one of the many who check in to this blog every day, I am asking you to do me a favor. I want you to tell at least two people about HIV. Spread the word that...
- HIV can NOT be spread through causal/household contact. HIV is not spread through hugging, kissing, shaking hands, sharing toys, sneezing, coughing, sharing food, sharing drinks, bathing, swimming or any other causal way. It has been proven that HIV and AIDS can only be spread through sexual contact, birth, breastfeeding and blood to blood contact (such as sharing needles).
- HIV is now considered a chronic but manageable disease. With treatment, people who are HIV+ can live indefinitely without developing AIDS and can live long and full lives.
- People who are HIV+ deserve to be treated with love, respect, support and acceptance as all people do.

Help me spread the truth about HIV, and take a tiny stab at the stigma against HIV. Tell your friend when you talk on the phone. Tell your spouse. Tell your parents. Post it on your blog and ask other people to tell their readers. Ask them to pass it on as well. I would love to see this spread beyond the adoption blogs.
Even if you have no real interest in HIV/AIDS, even if you are not involved in adoption, even if you don't think you know anyone who is HIV+... education and knowledge are always a good thing. It is so easy to say to someone, "hey, guess what I learned today?" and it is even easier to put it on a blog or in an email.
Do it for me. Do it for the other adoptive families and the HIV+ orphans that are waiting for homes. Do it for Belane and Solomon. Do it for all of the other people on this planet living with HIV. Yesterday I wrote about not appreciating every day that God has given to me!!! Tonight was confirmation that life goes by much too quickly. My children are growing in front of my eyes! These pj's fit Madison perfectly just a few short days ago!!!! Tyler leaves for college in a few short months!!! I'll continue to pray that I can absorb each little precious moment as a gift that was personally chosen for me to enjoy from my Creator. How does that saying go? Learning to Appreciate God's Gifts

I sat down at my computer and wanted to post something on my blog.....What????? I couldn't think of anything profound to write about. I had one of those days today....I managed to make it through work but all the while thinking of everything I needed to do at home that I didn't get done this weekend because I was gone the entire weekend! I wasn't even able to come home immediately after work and start knocking things off my too do list because I had to drive kids to church for dance team practice....Overwhelmed was a huge understatement! Oh yeah...did I add I had a headache for five days now. I'm sure stress is the underlying factor...new job, new house 5 kids, sick husband.....etc.... So I quickly decided to move on and not post, but just read others tonight. My first stop....my sister's blog! I am constantly (and a little freakishly) amazed by how similar our lives go....BUT she usually teaches me how to handle it better.

My Last Day At Work

Yesterday was my last day at work. I actually made it with only two bouts of tears. I didn't even go into the ugly cry!!!! I had a big talk with my little sis on the way and she reminded me that God sometimes only puts us into a situation for a short time BUT during that time I take away the best memories, amazing friendships and plenty more knowledge!

What is God Telling Me?

I'm struggling here!!!!! So many changes going on in my life ALL AT ONCE! Changes are good....struggles are normal. Struggles are what I look at as God's challenges. He's challenging me to dig deep and learn and grow! BUT IT"S HARD!!!!! I am SO going to miss my current work. I have some really amazing friends that I pray will continue FOREVER! Deep in my heart I know I'm doing the right thing! We had a church service one day were our Pastor said we should serve with everything we do! We should serve at home....we should serve at work....we should serve our community....we should serve our church. I dug deep and felt like I could do better in each of these situations (except maybe at home...I serve non-stop! Ha). The one place where I felt like I wasn't serving very much was in my own community. I pretty much felt like I didn't have time! By the time I got home from work, took care of the fam and went to church functions.....time's up!!!! So....I really feel like this is my opportunity to combine serving at work and my community! I adore my patients at my current work...but maybe somebody needs me more here....in my hometown....maybe I can make a difference.

61/2 Weeks!

At the agency in Ohio, one of the big things that stuck with me was that every child who comes home will have a melt down around 6-7 weeks! They said, mark your calendar....it WILL happen! Mario has been a "dream" child. So I really didn't think it would happen...but it did! During Easter service today! I felt a tap on my arm and looked down to find a pair of huge black eyes filled with tears. Now so far Mario only had a few teary eyes, no sobs about anything! So when I leaned down and asked what was wrong, he said he missed his old family! FINALLY...real feelings of lose, real saddness, a real child!!!!! He curled up on my lap with his head on my shoulder and cried....and along with him...I cried!!!! Luckily, I was in THE most comfortable and closest place I feel with God....so I asked for His help and we talked and prayed and in that moment we grew even closer! We took communion together, I explained to Mario that he is totally normal to feel that way and I would be feeling the same way! He sat with Brian and they wept together. After awhile he came back to me. I asked him if he was feeling better. He said, "Yes, because I have pretty cool parents!" I said, "You're right there! And Mario whenever you want to cry again...I'll be right there to cry with you!" Mario said, "And Dad too?" "Yes Mario...and Dad too!

Thank you God for sending Your Son to die on the cross so all our sins will be forgiven!!!! Happy Easter!!! God is good!!!

Final days of Construction!

Welcome to our new home....pardon the dust ....we are finishing up construction!!!! Step on in and I'll give you the tour!

Feeling Bittersweet About a Huge Prayer Answered!!!

Four years ago I had applied for a job in my little town at the local Doctor's Office owned by a hospital in a larger town. At that time I was told that they hire in-house first....so....I went and got a job at the hospital so I could be in-house if they were to hire again someday. So ...here we are, I'm working for a Doctor that I adore and with staff that I love and I get the call....they're hiring a new nurse in the office that is literally blocks from my house! Well....I found out I got the job!!!! It's four days a week instead of five! I'll have Wednesday off! Perfect! With gas being crazy, I'll be saving tons of $$$$. I'll get home by 5:05! And the best thing is I won't miss every school program that occurs during the day! We cover each other long enough for the Mom's to go watch! This is a great thing for me and my family! Now...I have to get used to the idea of leaving people I have spent more hours in the day with than my own family! We have so much fun and I will miss each of them so much!!!!

Thank you God for taking care of me and my family even when it's hard to turn my back on others I care for. Thank you for providing a career where I can connect with people and help serve others in a capacity that I truly enjoy! Please let me serve you through my work. Amen

Do you remember your senior year in high school? I remember some things...I have a super bad memory, but what I do recall was just having fun with my friends and boyfriend. I remember simple times of going to ballgames and cruising around. I remember slumber parties with almost every senior girl being there! I don't remember all the drama that I'm sure that went along with being a teenager..I am sure that is because with time we choose to forget the stressful times. That is my prayer for Tyler. I'm sure there is way more "stressors" out there now that kids have to face daily, than when I was a teenager. But Tyler has had to go through some pretty challenging times this year. She's had a few disappointments like getting very sick the week of Homecoming and missing her chance to ride in the parade (she was on court), missing the dance and the big football game. She took it like a trooper though. But she's also had some really horrible times that no 18 year old should have to face. I am absolutely amazed in how well she has handled those events! She is a constant shining light. She refuses to let anything keep her down.
We've prayed together and talked over how to handle things. Her strength is something I still strive for. I KNOW God has awesome things planned for her life!

I love you so much Tyler! You are my life! You are my hero!

Prayer of a Teenager
Lord, I need Your help. Sometimes my parents don't seem to understand me. Often enough I do not understand myself. Temptations can be very strong and enticing especially when my friends are trying to pull me away from You. I know I have a lot of growing up and maturing to experience before I am prepared to meet the responsibilities involved in a life-long commitment.
Show me how to avoid the pitfalls of drugs and smoking and alcohol, pornography and promiscuity and immodesty, laziness and loneliness and despair that have ruined the lives of so many my age around me.
Help me to appreciate more my parents and their love for me. May I accept the guidance of my teachers and mentors. Keep me close to the Church, faithful in my prayerlife.
May my choice of friends be the ones You would want me to have. I want to develop my talents to live up to Your expectations of me and thus receive Your blessings forever. I need nothing more. I ask for nothing else. You are my enough. Amen

Growing up, both Brian and my parents' always taught us to work hard for everything you want. That is a great lesson that we pass to our children. SO....when it came time for our adoption, we prepared ourselves in everyway. We took classes and talked to other adoptive families and read everything we could. One place we both struggled was with funding the adoption. Everything we read said to not go into debt and work hard at fundraising. Brian and I both didn't want to ask for support, but we quickly learned that God wants you to because it becomes a community effort that way and a tool to educate others about adoption. We prayed A LOT for God to let us except help for others. God worked as only he could when after a series of events happened...I received a phone call from my dear friend Jodi. They had money to donate and chose us to give it to. She asked what we needed to pay our agency...man was I hesitant to tell her!!! THAT WAS NOT WHAT I WAS USED TO! When I told her the number.....it was exactly the same number her husband Jason has told her they had to give!!!! If that wasn't God's working...I don't know what was. We were so blessed to have been touch by Jason and Jodi. They are amazing friends and I feel like I have not been able to tell them how much they mean to us. We thank them for helping us bring Mario home to us!!!! Their support both financial and emotionally is amazing!!!!! Thank you God for Jason and Jodi, Anthony and Nina!!!!

LIFE IS SWEET!

I absolutely love Sundays! My family loves to get up and go to our church's, "Kid Stuff"! It's a service for kids to bring their parents! There's loud worship and dance (that Raegan and Madison just joined the dance team). There's skits, stories, and prayer. Today they had their "mock" game show. Mario was chosen as a contestant...he answered the question correctly and won a candy bar! Of course it was cool that he was chosen and won....but what happened next BLEW MY MIND! I saw him open the candy bar and start breaking off pieces and handing it to alot of other children...he shared ALL OF IT!! He sat back down empty handed but with a huge smile on his face. But don't worry...the little boy next to him that got the first and biggest piece broke it in half and shared back with Mario!!!!! Several Mom's came up to me afterwards and said, "Did you see Mario share his whole candy bar?" My smile was just as big as his was after his kindness was done! I love what these kids are learning....What' would Jesus do? He'd share his Twix!

Okay...the boys are still WAY out numbered in this house...but at least Brian finally got a partner for his football games! They'll move up slowly to the bigger screens and more life-like graphics...but this is priceless to me!!!!
